MacLennan joins the Esteem team as our new Creative Design
Assistant
Julie
has come on board to put her creative stamp on all of our
Esteem materials using the new Adobe suite. We are all looking
forward to welcoming Julie into the team.

Martina
gets her very first Award!
Whilst
attending the National Skills Academy for Construction London
2012 Awards, Martina was delighted to receive a certificate
in recognition for significant contribution to employment,
training and skills on the London 2012 construction programme.

More Funded FMB NSAFC Performance+ NVQ Programmes Announced
for 2011!
Esteem
has been successful in a bid with Constructionskills to deliver
5 more Performance+ NVQ programmes. These programmes
are being run in partnership with the Federation of Master
Builders (FMB) and the National Skills Academy for Construction
(NSAfC).
The
5 programmes will be taking place in Luton, Holborn, Wolverhampton,
Leicester and Stratford and all candidates will be working
towards the NVQ Level 5 Diploma in Management. We are
currently in the process of recruiting construction companies
to fill these programmes and have funding for 14 companies
and 28 delegates on each programme.

FMB
Success Through Service Programme
We
have also been successful in a bid to work with the Federation
of Master Builders to develop a funded customer service programme,
aimed at assisting FMB members to sustain their business through
exceptional customer service.
We
will be running 4 pilot programmes in September with 16 delegates
per programme - Leeds, Luton, Holborn and Stirling.

portfolios for these 3 programmes have now been submitted
to the external assessor and we are looking forward to announcing

From
April
The
default retirement age (DRA)
- The Employment Equality (Repeal of Retirement Age Provisions)
Regulations 2011 come into force on 6 April 2011 making it
unlawful to dismiss someone on grounds of age, subject
to transitional provisions. Employers will be able to retain
a compulsory retirement age only if they can objectively justify
it.
Additional
paternity leave (APL)
- applies to those with a baby due on or after 3 April
2011
Rates
of statutory maternity pay (SMP), statutory paternity pay
(SPP), statutory adoption pay (SAP)
will increase from £124.88 to £128.73 from 3 April,
and statutory sick pay (SPP) will
increase from £79.15 to £81.60 from 6 April. The
weekly earnings threshold for the SMP, SPP
and SAP payments will also increase from £97 to £102
from 3 April.
Rates
of NI contributions paid by employees, employers
and the self-employed increase by one percentage point –
from 6 April 2011.
From
July
The
Agency Workers Regulations 2010
(SI 2010/93) are due to come into force from 1 October. Temporary
agency workers in the UK will receive equal treatment to comparable
permanent employees after 12 weeks in a job. This is
to comply with the EU Temporary Agency Workers Directive 2008/104/EC.

Insurance Contributions Act
- increases the rates of NI contributions paid by employees,
employers and the self-employed by one percentage point from
6 April 2011.
Pensions
Bill
- will require employers to automatically enrol employees
into a pension scheme from 2012. The Bill was introduced to
Parliament in January 2011.
